About the position

The Transportation Manager at KeHE Distributors is responsible for overseeing the financial processes within Outbound Transportation, including driver management, budget forecasting, fleet safety, and financial reporting. This role focuses on developing and implementing cost-effective fleet practices to support the company's customers and vendors, while also analyzing and reporting on transportation metrics to optimize operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the financial process within Outbound Transportation including driver management, budget forecasting, fleet safety, and financial reporting.
  • Track, analyze and report transportation financial metrics in support of outbound transportation.
  • Prepare analytics to design transportation optimization solutions.
  • Assist in the development of scorecards, collaborating with team members to report operational and financial metrics.
  • Develop strategic bid plans considering current and future industry state, aligning to the strategic transportation plans and KeHE financial targets.
  • Develop and implement a holistic driver management strategy for professional truck drivers.
  • Ensure route optimization across inbound and outbound functions of the local transportation network.
  • Work with carrier partners and internal team members to understand freight impact, resolve issues and ensure top-tier service and performance for customers and vendors.
  • Manage invoicing and audit process and resolve issues regarding payment and rates.
  • Oversee the freight claims process for the local team.
  • Assess, create, and deliver carrier and driver performance measurements and develop & implement action plans to continuously improve service.
  • Support day-to-day transportation business processes in close collaboration with Warehouse Operations Managers.
  • Administer and maintain the Transportation Management System.
  • Analyze, manage, and report on key performance indicators and key performance drivers.
  • Work cross-functionally with local and national HR for recruiting, onboarding, and performance management of drivers.
  • Continuously improve workforce planning for current and future state optimization of customer demand and on-time delivery.

Requirements

  • Degree in business/finance/logistics preferred.
  • Robust knowledge of DOT/FMCSA safety and compliance measures.
  • Proven skills in accident and incident investigations.
  • A minimum of 7 years previous transportation/logistics experience with at least 3 years as supervisor required.
  • Experience in truckload, intermodal and LTL across multiple temperature classes.
  • Private fleet experience a plus.
  • Solid analytical capabilities for reviewing large amounts of data, summarizing the material for management, and identifying critical issues.
  • Advanced level computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, TMS.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Must be results-oriented, self-directed, and have excellent time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, customer-focused, able to lead a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience working in a unionized environment, preferably with the Teamsters.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with union representatives and members.
