About the position

The position involves managing all aspects of the transportation function in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment. This includes the selection of qualified drivers, routing, driving, safety, unloading, fleet maintenance, customer/driver relationships, and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Operating Company (OpCo) regulations. The role also includes involvement in the driver selection and orientation process, handling employee relations issues, monitoring compliance with DOT and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulations, managing Transportation Supervisors, and ensuring customer satisfaction through effective routing processes. The position requires functioning as a team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duties to best serve the company.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Transportation Supervisor and/or staff of drivers to ensure deliveries are made in a safe, efficient and timely manner, maintaining dependability and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversees day-to-day administration of delivery function including managing, monitoring and approving department expenses, calculating driver payroll, reviewing driver trip and expense reports, and identifying and resolving problems.
  • Prepares annual transportation operating budget; performs cost analyses (e.g., truck leases, fuel consumption, etc.) and coordinates financial reporting.
  • Works closely with Warehouse Manager to ensure the highest level of efficiency within the operation.
  • Responsible for scheduling truck deliveries and routing on a daily basis, including backhauls, and changes routes accordingly to meet customer needs and to maximize route profitability.
  • Responsible for equipment scheduling and maintenance, analyzing equipment needs and determining type and number required, and setting up rental of additional vehicles as required.
  • Responsible for DOT compliance, monitoring DOT logs and ensuring drivers comply with DOT regulations, as well as compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and updates all relevant information on drivers such as license, DOT medical certification, tickets for moving violations, accidents, and other risk and safety-related data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4 years transportation experience including in-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and experience with operations of computerized fleet management systems.
  • 3 - 5 years Team lead or Supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4+ years transportation experience including in-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and experience with operations of computerized fleet management systems within foodservice industry.
  • Valid driver's license required; Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
