About the position

The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the transportation department, ensuring efficient assignment of trucks, route management for drivers, and vehicle maintenance tracking. This role involves liaising with customers, tracking shipments, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations while maintaining smooth operational flow. The manager will also focus on developing a high-performing team and workplace culture, analyzing system effectiveness, and managing administrative functions related to transportation operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise key staff to monitor operations of company trucks, ensuring workload is completed per customer expectations efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Develop a best-in-class team and workplace culture, effectively manage performance and talent development, and manage day-to-day operations, ensuring service level requirements are being met.
  • Analyze system effectiveness and efficiency, and develop service requirements as needed.
  • Administer and enforce the terms and conditions of service contracts.
  • Ensure all Safety and Compliance requirements are met by Office Staff and Drivers follow all directions from the Safety Department.
  • Manage all administrative functions including Invoicing, Payroll, Licensing, and Fuel programs.
  • Manage and maintain the Transportation Management System (TMS), ensuring data accuracy and providing detailed reports including comprehensive system reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual capital plan for transit improvements.
  • Remain knowledgeable on current industry regulations, trends, and other relevant information.
  • Develop and implement divisional standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with terminal supervision at current and future locations to help maximize driver and equipment utilization across the fleet.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors to keep trucks and trailers maintained and safe while managing associated costs.
  • Participate in the successful implementation of other functional projects as they arise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent degree or experience.
  • Experience in management of a trucking operation with a minimum of 5 years.
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Possess strong customer service and relationship skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiating skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in the use of Excel, MS Office, TMS, and BI database tools.
