About the position

The Transportation Operations Manager is a key role within a well-established family-owned agricultural company in the trucking transportation industry. This position focuses on managing day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a positive work environment for employees. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach, working closely with both customers and staff to enhance operational efficiency and employee satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the accuracy of all payrolls turned in bi-weekly by subordinate management.
  • Manage the maintenance schedules of all equipment overseen.
  • Cross-train with other company Operations Managers.
  • Assist the accounting department in scanning documents and preparing invoices to be billed.
  • Work with customers and employees to ensure success in day-to-day operations.
  • Collaborate with HR and upper management on employee rewards, incentives, and compensation programs.
  • Identify areas for improvement to increase efficiency and cut costs.
  • Develop and manage a plan for times of absence.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws in collaboration with HR.
  • Build constructive relationships with employees, customers, and plant managers.
  • Conduct internal investigations and execute disciplinary actions as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of transportation or agricultural management experience.
  • Class A CDL or willingness to obtain one preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
  • Knowledge of current HOS regulations including Ag Exemption laws.
  • Willingness to take calls after hours as needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish as a second language preferred.
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to deliver clear presentations.
  • Skill in analyzing issues from various perspectives.
  • Ability to forge strong relationships and relate to diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to efficiently self-manage time.
  • Ability to work in the field on a regular basis.
