About the position

The Transportation Operations Specialist (Motor) position is a developmental role within the General Services Administration (GSA) that focuses on performing administrative and analytical tasks related to fleet management. The specialist will work under guidance to manage vehicle assignments, coordinate procurement actions, and ensure compliance with regulations while contributing to the efficiency of fleet operations. This role offers opportunities for growth and promotion based on performance and completion of training.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, prepares for assignment, and assigns or delivers new replacement vehicles to assigned customer activity locations.
  • Coordinates a vehicle rotation program by reviewing utilization patterns to achieve maximum efficiency and economy of fleet operations.
  • Participates in the initiation of vehicle procurement actions on replacement and additional vehicles based on established replacement standards and consultation with using agencies.
  • Ensures GSA Fleet new replacement vehicles are received, prepared for assignment, and assigned or delivered to customer locations under close guidance from higher graded specialists.
  • Assists in determining vehicle repair and maintenance needs and provides initial recommendations to restore vehicles to good operating condition.
  • Evaluates both governmental and commercial partners' compliance with regulatory, legislative, and GSA Fleet policy requirements and guidance.
  • Reviews, measures, and recommends improvements in practices and procedures relating to customer service, cost control, and utilization of vehicles and other resources.
  • Analyzes program areas to identify weaknesses or opportunities for improvement.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or National (Residents of American Samoa and Swains Island).
  • Valid State Driver's License.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or higher in the federal service for GS-09 qualification.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or higher in the federal service for GS-11 qualification.
  • Education in fields related to accounting, business administration, economics, engineering, or transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automated data processing systems in fleet management.
  • Knowledge of fleet operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and vendors.
