About the position

The Transportation Operations Team Lead (TOTL) position at the Idaho Transportation Department is a supervisory role focused on coordinating highway maintenance activities. This position serves as the first step in a career path that emphasizes leadership, safety, and effective communication. The successful candidate will oversee maintenance projects, manage staff, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards while working in various weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.

Responsibilities

• Supervises or coordinates maintenance projects on state highways.
• Assists staff to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate activities of staff in major maintenance and repair projects.
• Estimates equipment, materials, and manpower needed for projects.
• Uses highway plans, specifications, maps, and aerial photos for repair, widening, alignment, and right-of-way purposes.
• Inspects completed work and assures quality and compliance with standards and specifications.
• Coordinates activities with utility companies, city, county, and state agencies and contractors.
• Reviews and approves traffic control plan(s) for the assigned region.

Requirements

• Current Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement at time of hire.
• Good knowledge of highway maintenance materials and procedures.
• Experience planning and organizing work crews for maintenance and repair projects.
• Experience training others in equipment operation and highway maintenance procedures.
• Experience inspecting maintenance and repair activities for compliance with standards.
• Good knowledge of ITD standard drawings and operations manual.
