About the position

The Agency of Transportation in Vermont is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual for the position of Transportation Operations Technician I. This entry-level role is crucial for maintaining the safety and functionality of the state's highways. The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to highway maintenance, including but not limited to repairing guardrails, cutting trees and brush, patching roads, picking up litter, and performing ditching operations. These tasks are vital for ensuring that the roadways remain safe and accessible for all users. During the winter months, the responsibilities of this position expand to include assisting with snow plowing and salting operations. This aspect of the job is particularly demanding, as it requires the technician to work in extreme weather conditions and often necessitates overtime hours. The role is physically demanding and requires the ability to lift heavy materials and operate various tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance work.
