About the position

The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician II to join our dedicated team in Cambridge, Vermont. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and functionality of our highways. The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential for highway maintenance, including but not limited to repairing guardrails, cutting trees and brush, patching roads, picking up litter, and performing ditching operations. These tasks are vital for ensuring that our roadways are safe and accessible for all users. During the winter months, the responsibilities of this position expand to include assisting with snow plowing and salting operations. This is a critical time for our agency, and the technician must be prepared to work considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies. The role may also involve assisting in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment used in these operations, ensuring that all tools and machinery are in good working order. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Ability to withstand exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions.

  • Familiarity with working on or near heavy equipment and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to work safely in proximity to moving traffic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in highway maintenance or similar field.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to highway maintenance.
