The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician II to join their dedicated team in Chester, Vermont. This permanent, full-time position involves a variety of tasks related to highway maintenance, including but not limited to repairing guardrails, cutting trees and brush, patching roads, picking litter, and ditching. During the winter months, the technician will assist with plowing and salting operations, which may require considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies. The role demands physical endurance and the ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions. The technician must be available for overtime and be reachable by phone outside of regular work hours. This position also offers a CDL training program, providing opportunities for career development within the agency. In addition to the core responsibilities, the Transportation Operations Technician II will be expected to operate various types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently. The incumbent will be exposed to normal dangers associated with maintenance work, including working near heavy equipment and hazardous materials. Participation in a random drug and alcohol testing program is mandatory, and the technician must be able to lift materials and use tools commonly found in maintenance work.
