About the position

AECOM is looking for a skilled and experienced Transportation Engineer or Planner to join our team supporting Florida's Turnpike Enterprise in Ocoee, Florida. This position involves applying the newly developed statewide tour-based model as well as regional travel demand models. Responsibilities include developing scripts for innovative toll project evaluations and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team on planning, economic feasibility analysis, and toll road design. The Transportation Engineer/Planner will leverage their skills and experience to develop and update model code for travel demand modeling. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to develop and update model code for travel demand modeling, utilizing software such as Visum, TransCAD, QGIS, R, and Python. Your responsibilities will include model development, data preparation, model validation, forecast development, documentation, GIS application, programming, and research and analysis. You will present modeling results to various stakeholders, including clients, TRB and IBTTA conference attendees, and model user groups, through exceptional technical writing and verbal communication skills. Responsibilities

  • Create and refine model code for travel demand modeling.
  • Assemble and prepare data for model validation and long-range travel forecasts.
  • Ensure models meet required accuracy standards.
  • Generate forecasts for toll road projects.
  • Document results of modeling and forecasting efforts.
  • Use QGIS/ArcGIS for model design and related database development.
  • Utilize SQL, Python, R, or other programming languages for model development.
  • Conduct research on design, data development, and statistical analyses to improve modeling approaches.
  • Present modeling results to various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant transportation modeling experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience and knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives of transportation planning applications, specifically the 4-Step process of travel demand modeling, Activity-Based Models, micro-simulation, and dynamic traffic assignment.
  • Experience and knowledge of GIS and database analysis, including developing scripts to process data in and out of GIS files or automated routines in QGIS / ArcGIS.
  • Experience and knowledge of choice models, development, and application to travel demand, including the use of econometrics in estimating demand models from survey data.
  • Programming experience with at least two of the following: Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL, C++, Python, R, JAVA.
  • Experience and knowledge of travel demand modeling software, such as Cube, TransCAD, TRANSIMS, and VISUM.

Nice-to-haves

  • Utilization of advanced techniques with modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of planning sciences, data sciences and related disciplines.
  • Master's or PhD degree in related field.
