About the position

The Transportation Specialist IV position at TxDOT involves providing high-level technical expertise and coordination for various transportation programs, including design and construction projects, traffic operations, and maintenance of highways and facilities. The role requires significant interaction with governmental officials, contractors, and private entities, and involves planning, oversight, and policy development within the district operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced technical expertise and coordination for maintenance operations including prioritizing projects, monitoring correspondence and writing memorandums and reports.
  • Assists in planning, developing, administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreements.
  • Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects.
  • Implements the Vegetation/Herbicide Program.
  • May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
  • Plans, coordinates and schedules bridge inspection and Bridge Inspection Program activities.
  • Prepares bridge inspection follow-up worksheet for maintenance and gives instruction for recommended actions; monitors follow-up actions taken by maintenance.
  • Trains and makes training-related recommendations to staff on new operations.
  • Travels to districts and maintenance offices to perform site visits and monitor maintenance programs.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of experience in transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, or bridge inspection.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with budgeting methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of competitive bid processes, rules, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with incident management procedures.
