About the position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Transportation Structural Engineer to join their Orlando, FL office. This role involves supporting the Florida Turnpike Enterprise General Engineering Consultant Program and working on various infrastructure projects. The engineer will be responsible for planning, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of engineering work, providing structural engineering support, and solving complex structural issues. The position requires collaboration with other engineers and professionals, as well as the preparation of final plans and reports for approval.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project.
  • Provides structural engineering support to Department and Consultant staff in areas of structure plans, analysis and design.
  • Identifies and solves complex structural engineering issues.
  • Reviews Category 1 structure plans and other technical documents such as Design Variations, Design Exceptions, typical section packages, maintenance permits and non-conventional project concept plans and documents.
  • Performs the District review of plans and/or non-conventional project concept plans and documents involving Category 2 structures.
  • Reviews all component plans for structural details and coordination among plan sets.
  • Reviews contractor-initiated submittals (RFIs, RFCs, shop drawings, remedials, etc.).
  • Assists with the development of Requests for Proposals (RFP) for nonconventional bid projects.
  • Provides input regarding potential policy manual and design standard revisions.
  • Assists in the preparation of Scope of Services and staff hour estimates for new contracts and Supplemental Agreements.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of final plans and reports and submits them for approval.
  • Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff.
  • Records review comments in Electronic Review Comments (ERC) system and confirms compliance to comments with responses and subsequent submittals.
  • May occasionally assist in the management of projects.

Requirements

  • PE License required
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering; M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred
  • Seven years of experience since B.S. or six years since M.S.; typical incumbent has ten to fourteen years of experience
  • Proven technical writing and communication skills
  • Incumbent may be eligible for project management training
