About the position

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Transportation Department's activities and associates, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory guidelines. This role focuses on providing excellent customer service through timely deliveries, efficient routing and scheduling of loads, and maintaining good public relations with store management. The supervisor will also coordinate with warehouse personnel and ensure that all drivers adhere to safety and legal standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Transportation Department activities and associates to ensure compliance with guidelines.
• Provide excellent customer service through timely order deliveries to stores.
• Route and schedule loads for distribution efficiently.
• Ensure merchandise is delivered in optimal condition.
• Coordinate with Warehouse personnel for delivery timing.
• Partner with Procurement and Traffic staff for backhaul coordination.
• Assign drivers to loads while ensuring compliance with guidelines.
• Ensure all drivers comply with Company, Federal, State, and Local laws.
• Oversee check in/out procedures and pre-trip safety checks for drivers.
• Issue road tests as required.
• Maintain good public relations with store management through communication and visits.
• Process weekly/monthly reports and ensure compliance with regulations.

Requirements

• Previous experience or formal training in transportation, preferably in the grocery industry.
• Good working knowledge of government regulations related to transportation.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to supervise others.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to deal effectively with a variety of people in person and over the phone.
• Personal computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and Word.
• Analytical ability to handle administrative duties and ensure accurate completion of work activities.
