About the position

The Assistant Supervisor-Transportation position at Pennsauken Public Schools involves assisting in overseeing daily transportation operations, including route planning and scheduling. The role requires collaboration with school administration to accommodate special transportation needs and changes in schedules, as well as monitoring bus performance and ensuring compliance with all state and federal transportation regulations. The Assistant Supervisor will also conduct regular training and safety meetings for drivers, serve as the primary point of contact for transportation issues, and assist in the development and management of the transportation budget.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing daily transportation operations, including route planning and scheduling.
  • Assist in supervising and evaluating transportation staff, including bus drivers and support personnel.
  • Conduct regular training and safety meetings for drivers.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining efficient transportation routes for students.
  • Collaborate with school administration to accommodate special transportation needs and changes in schedules.
  • Monitor bus performance and adjust routes as necessary to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal transportation regulations and district policies.
  • Implement and maintain safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
  • Assist in the regular conduct of inspections of transportation vehicles and equipment to ensure safety standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, students, and staff regarding transportation issues and concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with district administration and local law enforcement as needed.
  • Provide timely updates to stakeholders regarding transportation schedules and any changes.
  • Assist in the development and management of the transportation budget.
  • Monitor fuel and maintenance costs, ensuring the efficient use of district resources.
  • Coordinate with the district mechanics for the maintenance and repair of transportation vehicles.
  • Assist in the preparation of State/local reports.
  • Assist in the preparation for specifications for bids pertaining to all departmental requirements and the maintenance of accurate inventories of equipment and supplies.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or in his/her absence.
  • Shall be available for consultation and meetings in the absence of the Transportation Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in transportation management, logistics, education, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation or fleet management, preferably in a school environment.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations and familiarity with routing software and GPS technology.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and evenings as needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and transportation management software.
  • Holder of bus driver's license (CDL Type B with passenger endorsement) to be available to drive during emergency situations.
  • Must possess the School Transportation Supervisor certification or at least in the process of obtaining one.
