About the position

The Transportation Technical Specialist position at the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) involves working within the District's in-house design section, focusing on the preparation of detailed plans for various transportation projects. The role emphasizes compliance with ODOT specifications and standard practices, utilizing CADD software for design tasks, and providing technical support to engineers and other personnel involved in highway construction and maintenance projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed plans using CADD software and perform quantity calculations in compliance with ODOT specifications.
  • Review and design simple plans for proposed highway construction projects and improvements under supervision.
  • Provide technical support to engineers, designers, and utility personnel in the development of highway construction plans.
  • Coordinate and request field work as necessary, making calculations related to roadway design.
  • Research existing records to provide information for plan preparation and right of way acquisition.
  • Check calculations by others and review plans for conformance to standards.
  • Participate in pre-construction and post-construction meetings and field reviews of project sites.

Requirements

  • 4 years of training or 4 years of experience in engineering-related technical experience in construction, rehabilitation, maintenance projects, or planning and design of civil engineering projects.
  • Completion of an associate degree program in engineering technology with 2 years of engineering-related technical experience.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted in the position description.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with management information systems related to project delivery.
  • Familiarity with CADD software and standard engineering practices.
