About the position
The Transportation Technician IV at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson Inc. is a lead inspector role responsible for supervising transportation construction projects in North Carolina. This position involves ensuring compliance with plans and specifications, managing inspection staff, and interacting with various stakeholders to resolve field issues. The role requires a strong background in civil engineering technology and extensive experience in transportation projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspection of contractor's operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
- Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project
- Measure and track quantities of pay items
- Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector's daily diaries
- Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution
- Seven (7) years of progressive technician level experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Active driver's license
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
- Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings
Nice-to-haves
- NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
- Experience with local clients preferred
