About the position
This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits, competitive salaries, and many career development opportunities. The salary grade is NC04 with a salary range of $31,200.00 - $52,813.00. All recommended salaries are based on each applicant's qualifying education and related experience in combination with the position's budgeted salary. The maximum hiring rate for this position is $44,563. This is an extended posting through December 6, 2024, for Transportation Worker I positions in Division 11, Caldwell County. Multiple Transportation Worker I positions will be filled from each extended county posting. Interested applicants will only have to apply one time to be considered for all our Transportation Worker I vacancies in each respective county during this time frame. However, if an applicant is interested in applying for a Transportation Worker I position in more than one county, they will need to apply to each respective county posting for which they are seeking employment. These are permanent NCDOT positions with full benefits including health insurance, retirement, vacation, and sick leave, etc.
Responsibilities
- Operate standard hand tools, power equipment, vehicles, and heavy equipment for maintenance, repair, and construction of roads and roadside features.
- Inspect work zones and ensure safety during operations.
- Participate in snow and ice removal activities.
- Assist with maintenance and repair project completion using various tools and equipment.
- Operate vehicles such as dump trucks, tractors, and other heavy machinery as required.
- Assist paint crews and erect road signs as needed.
- Perform vegetation control and debris removal tasks.
- Assist in carpentry, welding, steel fabrication, or concrete work activities.
Requirements
- Experience operating power tools such as chainsaws, weed eaters, skill saws, drills, compactors, and jackhammers.
- Experience performing manual labor.
- Possession of a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) on the date of hire, or ability to obtain it within 360 days of hire.
