About the position

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing professional assessments and non-invasive ultrasound studies to aid in patient care. This role involves using cognitive skills to evaluate various disease processes and communicating preliminary results to physicians. The sonographer will work with both stationary and portable equipment and may also serve as a clinical instructor and participate in research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform professional level assessments and non-invasive studies using ultrasound technology.
  • Record results and clinical preliminary impressions as indicated.
  • Assist with transthoracic echo, transesophageal echo, and stress testing procedures.
  • Communicate preliminary impressions of examination results to physicians.
  • Perform examinations on adults, geriatric patients, and occasionally on adolescents and pediatric age groups.
  • Use both stationary and portable equipment for examinations.
  • Serve as a clinical instructor for the UW School of Ultrasound.
  • Participate in clinical research and act as a clinical resource to staff.

Requirements

  • Registered in echocardiography (RCS or RDCS).
  • BLS certification through American Heart Association.
  • Minimum one-year cardiac experience required.
