LPNs are integral members of the healthcare team, responsible for various nursing functions and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and dental care.
- Provide nursing functions as directed by the supervisor, including perineal care, catheter care, and monitoring vital signs.
- Prepare residents for meals and assist with feeding as needed, while recording food and fluid intake.
- Maintain resident confidentiality and treat residents with dignity and respect, complying with Resident's Rights rules.
- Utilize nursing knowledge to implement preventive and rehabilitative care for assigned patients.
- Perform delegated independent nursing functions according to established procedures and guidelines.
- Assist in data collection for patient records and contribute to care plan development.
- Carry out physician orders accurately and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of nursing care.
- Document observations and interventions in patient records accurately.
- Administer medications and perform limited IV therapy procedures as delegated by the RN.
- Maintain communication among patients, staff, and physicians regarding patient care.
- Provide health teaching to patients and their families as delegated by the RN.
- Participate in staff development programs and meetings as requested.
Requirements
- Graduate of a nationally approved Nursing program is required.
- Maintain current BLS/CPR certification from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC).
- Must be currently licensed by the State Board of Nursing.
