About the position

The Travel Nurse RN - Long Term Care position involves providing nursing care in a long-term care setting, specifically focusing on the completion of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments for residents in Medicare or Medicaid certified beds. The role requires managing patient care, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and coordinating with other healthcare providers to maintain continuity of care. This travel nursing position is contracted for 13 weeks, with a focus on delivering high-quality care and education to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Complete standardized MDS assessments to evaluate residents' health and well-being.
  • Manage patient care and cover for urgent staffing needs as required.
  • Assume administrative duties as delegated by the Director of Nursing, including disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Coordinate and train new employees, students, and float staff as needed.
  • Provide patient education and assist with specialty care modalities and symptom management.
  • Monitor compliance and effects of care management for high-risk patients.
  • Educate patients and families on medications, side effects, and discharge planning efforts.

Requirements

  • 2 years of Charge/Supervisor experience in a nursing role.
  • Long-term care experience is required.
  • Strong assessment and resident evaluation skills.
  • Ability to coordinate the development of individualized nursing care plans.
  • Supervisory skills for nursing actions and medication administration.
  • Understanding of MDS software and CMS transmission processes.
  • Current Michigan State License and BLS certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, specifically Meditech.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding long-term care.
