About the position

The Traveling Dining Director is responsible for overseeing food service operations within senior living communities, ensuring high standards of nutrition and food quality for residents. This role involves managing dining services, purchasing food, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. The director will also plan dining events, hire and train staff, and address any operational issues to enhance the dining experience for residents.

Responsibilities

  • Direct food service operations within the community, including food preparation and dining delivery services.
  • Purchase all food and manage inventory to ensure effective cost controls and vendor service quality.
  • Ensure the highest nutrition and food quality for residents.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations to ensure sanitary and safe operations.
  • Plan and execute entertaining dining events in collaboration with other administrative staff.
  • Cater events as requested by residents or staff.
  • Fill in for the Director of Dining Service during PTO or leave.
  • Hire, train, and manage supervisory staff for kitchen and dining services.
  • Coach supervisors in maintaining staffing levels and motivating staff.
  • Consult with chefs to develop and maintain nutritious menus based on resident preferences.
  • Assess resident desires regarding food selection through surveys and daily contact.
  • Develop department budget including purchasing and staffing expenditures.
  • Monitor budget compliance and recommend changes as needed.
  • Encourage socialization and enjoyment of residents through food presentation and events.
  • Improve the décor and condition of dining rooms for a pleasant experience.
  • Assist with the start-up of new dining services departments and train staff on dining services systems.

Requirements

  • Experience in food service management, preferably in a senior living or healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs of residents.
  • Ability to manage budgets and control food costs effectively.
  • Excellent leadership and staff management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with event planning and catering services.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local food service regulations.
  • Ability to create engaging dining experiences for residents.
