The Traveling Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at Springbrook NY Inc. is designed to provide essential assistance to individuals receiving services across various educational and residential environments. The primary goal of this role is to promote choice and independence for these individuals while ensuring protective oversight. The DSP will be responsible for demonstrating compliance with all Springbrook policies and state regulations, which is crucial for maintaining a safe and smooth operation of the program. This position requires flexibility as the DSP will be deployed to different locations within the agency to meet staffing requirements as needed. In this role, the DSP will serve as a positive role model while engaging with individuals in various behavioral, medical, educational, and social situations. Responsibilities include implementing service plans, collecting required data, and supporting individuals with challenging behaviors, which may involve performing physical interventions as trained. The DSP will also act as a medical advocate, which includes obtaining and maintaining necessary medical certifications, administering medications, attending medical appointments, and fulfilling other duties as outlined in the plans of care. A person-centered planning approach is essential in this role to ensure the independence, growth, and development of individuals throughout their daily activities. The DSP will develop learning materials and goals based on the needs and interests of the individuals served. Additionally, the DSP will assist with activities of daily living, including personal care, and utilize community resources to help individuals achieve their personal goals and foster meaningful relationships. This may involve participation in spiritual activities, recreational activities such as swimming, and family functions. The DSP is expected to maintain safe and clean environments, including the grounds and vehicles used. Flexibility is key, as the DSP must provide full-time availability to the Assistant Director, including at least two weekend shifts per month. The Assistant Director will determine the locations for scheduled work, which will be assigned for a two-week period but may change based on agency needs. The role also requires the ability to travel to multiple locations to fill staffing shortages, with mileage or access to agency vehicles provided.
