About the position

The Traveling Direct Support Professional (DSP) at People Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities by implementing person-centered plans that promote independence, inclusion, and productivity. This position involves planning and coordinating meaningful daily activities, ensuring the safety and health of individuals served, and maintaining a clean environment. The DSP is responsible for various tasks including medication administration, documentation, and transportation of individuals to activities and appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement meaningful daily activities for individuals served.
  • Assist in developing and implementing person-centered plans.
  • Perform daily site cleaning, food preparation, and laundry as needed.
  • Complete tasks to ensure the health and safety of each person receiving services.
  • Administer medications following proper procedures when certified.
  • Complete daily documentation and other paperwork promptly and accurately.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers.
  • Record time worked at the start and end of each shift and meet minimum hours required.
  • Safely transport individuals to and from activities and appointments.
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available to support individuals' needs.
  • Perform CPR and SCIP-R as needed.
  • Maintain medication administration certification and other specialized medical certifications.
  • Provide flexible availability to the central scheduler, including working at least 2 weekends per month.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with changing locations as needed.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License that meets agency policy.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position including standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Lifting requirement of 35 lbs.
  • Ability to lift and transfer individuals manually and mechanically as required.
  • Ability to move, reposition, and place individuals in equipment.
  • Physical agility and ability to react to emergency situations, maintaining SCIP-R certification as per guidelines.
  • CPR certification.
