About the position

The position involves working in a Site Based or Recreation Respite program, providing support and activities for children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities. The role focuses on enhancing the lives of program participants through engaging activities while ensuring their safety and well-being. The employee will assist with daily living activities, meal support, and social interactions, contributing to a positive and enriching environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of program participants.
  • Demonstrate a positive and caring attitude towards program participants, families, and staff.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants.
  • Assist program participants with activities of daily living as needed.
  • Provide mealtime support to program participants as needed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of monthly activity calendars.
  • Facilitate social and recreational activities for program participants.
  • Help program participants with homework assignments as needed.
  • Perform daily site cleaning and food preparation according to dietary needs.
  • Complete all tasks necessary to ensure the health and safety of each person receiving services.
  • Attend and participate in general staff meetings, in-service training, and other pertinent agency meetings/trainings.
  • Participate in quarterly training on Behavior Plans for all enrolled individuals.
  • Maintain accurate daily documentation per OPWDD and agency standards.
  • Complete and review daily online documentation and agency forms as applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Safely transport individuals to and from the Respite Program and activities when approved to drive.
  • Perform CPR and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R).
  • Record time worked at the start and end of each shift.
  • Provide flexible availability to the supervising Program Director on a monthly basis, including weekends.
  • Communicate with the Program Director to determine work locations based on program needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with changing locations as needed to maintain site minimums throughout the department.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License that meets agency policy.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend plans and documentation.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Lifting requirement of 35 lbs.
  • Ability to support individuals with repositioning, lifting, and transferring as required by their person-centered plan.
  • Physical agility and ability to react to emergency situations, including maintaining SCIP-R certification as per regulatory guidelines.
  • CPR certification.
