About the position

The GIS Field Technician position at Davey Resource Group is a full-time role that involves working closely with leading electrical and telecommunication companies to analyze and manage utility infrastructure. This position is based primarily in Jonesboro, Arkansas, but requires extensive travel throughout various service territories, both within and out of state. The technician will be responsible for inspecting and cataloging utility assets, ensuring the creation of accurate and consistent utility asset data sets for clients. This role is crucial in providing utility companies with real-time, updated, and quality data to enhance service reliability and efficiency. In addition to fieldwork, the technician will perform light GIS editing and manipulation of utility data, understand and utilize document management systems, and execute daily goals while adhering to quality, time, and budget constraints. The position requires the ability to identify electrical and communication utility equipment, recognize potential hazards, and maintain compliance with safety regulations to uphold a successful safety record. The technician will also be expected to review and correct data integrity errors within GIS databases, contributing to the overall accuracy of the data provided to clients. Responsibilities

  • Work with leading electrical and telecommunication companies to analyze utility infrastructure.
  • Inspect and catalog utility assets to create accurate utility asset data sets.
  • Provide utility companies with real-time, updated, and quality data to improve service and reliability.
  • Perform light GIS editing and manipulation of utility data.
  • Understand and utilize document management systems for filing and scanning documents.
  • Execute and plan daily goals while meeting quality, time, and budget constraints.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean DMV driving record.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or hike for extended periods and carry items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Presentations, Forms).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and at various hours of the day or night.
  • Organizational skills and ability to work in rugged terrain.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a two-year college or technical school degree in geography, GIS, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in electric utility and telecommunications preferred.
  • Proficient use of ESRI, ArcGIS Desktop, or other GIS software.
