About the position

The Resource Center has been a cornerstone in providing services to individuals with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. Initially founded by a group of concerned parents and citizens, the organization has evolved into a comprehensive agency that supports thousands of individuals with various types and levels of disabilities. As the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County, The Resource Center employs over 1,300 staff members dedicated to its mission of fostering independence, community contribution, lifelong growth, and quality of life for individuals with disabilities. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) Aide plays a crucial role in this mission by providing direct care and supervision to residents in all activities of daily living. This position involves implementing individual Habilitation Plans, documenting individual milestones, and participating as an active team member to ensure that participants receive the necessary support to achieve maximum independence and productivity. The DSP Aide must be knowledgeable about SCIP protocols and procedures, employing positive behavioral support techniques to address maladaptive behaviors effectively. In this role, the DSP Aide is responsible for learning each resident's habilitation plan, encouraging skill acquisition in personal care, monitoring health, and facilitating community participation. The position requires a commitment to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment while adhering to state and federal regulations. The DSP Aide must also advocate for residents' needs and maintain effective communication with families and service providers, ensuring a holistic approach to care and support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision in all activities of daily living.
  • Implement individual Habilitation Plans to promote independence and productivity.
  • Encourage and assist residents in personal care and daily living skills.
  • Assist in lifting and transferring residents using approved techniques.
  • Monitor and report on the health and dietary needs of residents.
  • Facilitate community outings and activities based on residents' interests.
  • Serve as a positive role model for residents in the community.
  • Complete daily documentation of milestones and activities.
  • Intervene in maladaptive behaviors according to SCIP protocols.
  • Report incidents and ensure protective actions are taken as needed.
  • Advocate for residents' needs and communicate concerns to supervisors.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for residents.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and agency policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Physical condition suitable for the demands of the job, including lifting and transferring residents.
  • Reliability, adaptability, and flexibility in attendance and duties.
  • Ability to follow written program plans and maintain documentation.
  • Knowledge of educational training techniques for developmentally disabled adults.
  • Basic computer skills for utilizing direct support certification programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of SCIP-R techniques and behavior management.
