About the position

The Treatment Systems Operator II is responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater treatment facilities, including the Leachate Pre-Treatment Facility and associated systems. This role involves monitoring wastewater flow, conducting laboratory tests, and ensuring compliance with operational standards. The operator will also respond to alarms, perform maintenance, and keep accurate records of operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains all equipment necessary for the treatment plant and associated systems.
  • Records monitored data and personal observations daily.
  • Makes daily rounds of the treatment facilities and grounds.
  • Receives hazardous materials and completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Responds to alarms or operational problems and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Performs technical work in process control sampling and testing in the lab.
  • Conducts laboratory sampling when the Lab Technician is unavailable.
  • Performs analyses in compliance with approved methods.
  • Carries out preventative and corrective maintenance on all equipment as needed.
  • Performs routine janitorial duties in all treatment facilities.
  • Completes other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification or associate degree in wastewater field or environmental sciences preferred.
  • Minimum four years of experience operating and maintaining wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations.
  • Experience with analytical laboratory equipment and methods preferred.
  • Knowledge of collection system operation and maintenance, work zone safety, and operating pumps and gauges.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions on equipment.
  • Intermediate math skills including decimals, fractions, and calculations.
  • Logical thinking and analysis skills to detect and correct errors.
  • Must be able to respond to alarm calls within 30 minutes.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Valid state-issued water or wastewater operator's license preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers including SCADA System and Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the use of analytical laboratory equipment, methods, and procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
