This position involves working as a Tree Faller in Yosemite National Park, where the incumbent will be responsible for felling trees of moderate difficulty and complexity using chainsaws. The role requires recognizing tree species, defects, and environmental hazards, while ensuring public safety and minimizing environmental impact. The job is temporary, with a typical seasonal entry-on-duty period from April through June, and may involve working in hazardous conditions and inclement weather.

  • Use chainsaws to fell trees of moderate difficulty and complexity.
  • Recognize tree species, defects, wood characteristics, and environmental hazards.
  • Provide for public safety and protect property and the surrounding environment.
  • Install and utilize rigging equipment such as ropes, cables, and pulleys.
  • Drive medium duty trucks while towing equipment on narrow, winding roads.
  • Operate aerial lift trucks, brush chippers, stump grinders, and portable winches.
  • Ability to operate different types and sizes of chainsaws in felling trees.
  • Experience in felling trees of various sizes in non-developed areas.
  • Knowledge of appropriate methods to fell trees considering species and environmental hazards.
  • Ability to use ropes and cables for tree rigging and removal.
  • Experience in operating skid steer loaders and other related equipment.
  • Experience in prescribed and suppression fire activities.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols in hazardous working conditions.
