About the position

The Tree Trimmer - Heavy Truck Driver position within the Department of Parks and Recreation involves operating heavy trucks and performing arboricultural tasks such as tree pruning, removal, and maintenance. The role is essential for maintaining the health and aesthetics of urban trees, ensuring public safety, and contributing to the city's green initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a 25,950 GVW or larger dump truck, boom truck, bucket truck, stump grinder, and industrial brush chipper.
  • Perform tree pruning, removal, and large tree relocation following accepted industry standards.
  • Conduct general clean-up during and after tree maintenance activities.
  • Ensure public safety and maintenance of tree health through proper trimming and shaping of trees and palms.
  • Haul debris to disposal sites as part of tree maintenance operations.

Requirements

  • Experience in the care and maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas, including tree trimming and pruning.
  • Knowledge of proper tree trimming techniques and practices, common tree diseases, and infestations.
  • Ability to climb trees with or without spikes and diagnose conditions harmful to trees.
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class B or higher) with proper endorsements.
  • Current State Department of Transportation medical examination certificate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current Certified Arborist or Tree Worker (ISA) certificate.
  • First Aid/CPR and AED certification.
  • Forklift Certification.
