About the position

The Trial Attorney at Allstate plays a crucial role in defending the company and its insured clients in various legal matters, including bodily injury and property damage lawsuits. This position involves managing litigation from inception to verdict, providing legal counsel, and ensuring compliance with evolving laws and regulations. The role offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for professional growth and collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions.
  • Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research for cases, including preparation for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
  • Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare summaries and reports.
  • Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
  • Interview clients and witnesses, drafting summaries of their statements and maintaining communication records.
  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings to observe and assist as needed; may represent the company or clients in routine matters.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations, and assist in updating the legal team on potential impacts to ongoing cases.
  • Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal skills and gain exposure to more complex legal work.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Louisiana State Bar.
  • Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis.
  • Demonstrates strong time management skills, effectively balancing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Capable of organizing case files, managing legal documents, and understanding the discovery process.
  • Skilled in communicating with clients, preparing summaries, and maintaining records of interactions.
  • Well-versed in legal ethics and the standards of professional conduct.
  • Equipped with fundamental negotiation techniques and strategies for client interactions and settlement discussions.
  • Must be commutable distance to courthouses throughout Southeast Louisiana.
