About the position

Established law firm in Torrance seeks a Trial Defense Paralegal to join their team. The firm focuses on complex civil litigation in both state and federal courts with a diverse client group including drug and medical device, motor vehicle companies, chemical products, consumer products, and heavy equipment industries. The ideal Trial Defense Paralegal possesses a strong background in defense litigation, has experience attending and preparing for trial, and is comfortable traveling nationwide to attend trials. As a Trial Defense Paralegal, you will prepare extensively for trial, including compiling materials, coordinating witnesses, managing exhibits, and attending trial proceedings. You will utilize iManage to maintain organized and easily accessible electronic case files. Collaboration with attorneys will be essential as you handle discovery tasks such as requests, depositions, and issuing subpoenas. You will also conduct document review and analysis across multiple platforms, create, revise, and proofread various documents, including correspondence, agreements, and legal pleadings. Proactively working with attorneys to ensure litigation progresses smoothly will be a key part of your role, as you regularly update team members and address client and case needs promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare extensively for trial, including compiling materials, coordinating witnesses, managing exhibits, and attending trial proceedings.
  • Utilize iManage to maintain organized and easily accessible electronic case files.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to handle discovery tasks such as requests, depositions, and issuing subpoenas.
  • Conduct document review and analysis across multiple platforms.
  • Create, revise, and proofread various documents, including correspondence, agreements, and legal pleadings.
  • Proactively work with attorneys to ensure litigation progresses smoothly, regularly updating team members and addressing client and case needs promptly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, Paralegal Certificate, or combination of education and years of experience required
  • 5+ years of defense litigation experience required
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Ability to travel nationwide to attend trial
  • Strong knowledge of client billing guidelines, as well as entering and recording accurate billing entries.
