About the position

The TRISO Fuel Design and Process Development Engineer at Westinghouse Electric is responsible for leading the manufacturing implementation strategy for TRISO fuel kernels and compacts, particularly for the eVinci™ Microreactor. This role involves directing manufacturing processes, overseeing procurement of fabrication equipment, and developing robust manufacturing concepts to enhance efficiency and quality in fuel production. The engineer will also serve as a subject matter expert, interfacing with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead TRISO manufacturing implementation strategy, supporting fabrication of TRISO fuel kernels and compacts for the eVinci™ Microreactor.
  • Direct manufacturing processes to ensure fabricated TRISO product achieves fuel manufacturing specifications.
  • Initiate and follow procurement of fuel fabrication equipment, provide integration across cross-disciplinary program teams, and oversee fabrication scale-up initiatives.
  • Develop robust manufacturing concepts to simplify and improve processes and ensure best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for preventing waste and inefficiency during production.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on TRISO fuel product design and fabrication in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Interface with and influence national laboratory partners, third-party fabricators and uranium suppliers, internal supply chain and materials acquisition representatives, and other project teams.
  • Serve as a design and/or review team member on related reactor system project teams considering the integrated risks and relations to TRISO fuel.
  • Support TRISO quality assurance, fuel failure and safety analysis, and licensing efforts for the eVinci™ Microreactor.

Requirements

  • Fuel manufacturing experience, particularly for TRISO fuel.
  • Bachelor's degree required - Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field preferred.
  • Advanced degree - M.S. or Ph.D. in above fields highly desired.
  • Minimum 6 years of applicable experience required.
