About the position
The Truss Designer position at a leading building materials company in Summerville, South Carolina, involves creating detailed truss design drawings and placement plans based on customer specifications and blueprints. The role requires collaboration with sales staff and customers to clarify technical aspects of designs, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the manufacturing process.
Responsibilities
- Produces floor and roof truss placement plans, truss design drawings, and truss quotes based on blueprints and customer requirements.
- Determines design specifications based on blueprints and structural design needs.
- Reviews other designers' work to reduce design errors before manufacturing.
- Creates optimized shop paperwork for manufacturing efficiency.
- Communicates with customers and sales staff on technical aspects of plans that require clarification.
- Documents communication with customers, architects, or engineers using Excel and saved emails.
- Consults with experienced component technicians and management for in-depth analysis when needed.
- Plans and paces work efficiently to meet productivity goals.
- Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices.
Requirements
- Proficiency in MiTek and/or Alpine software is required.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and architectural drawings.
- Knowledge of drafting, architectural design, or CAD applications.
- Strong attention to detail and basic math and measurement skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
