About the position

The Truss Sawyer II is responsible for cutting production line components such as trusses, cabinets, roofing, panels, doors, or stairs. This role involves monitoring inventory, operating automated saws and CNC equipment, and ensuring the quality of the cutting process. The position may also include training new sawyers and requires a thorough understanding of shop drawings and computerized production software.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor inventory and flow of materials and supplies relating to assembly process.
  • Work in more complicated aspects of material cutting.
  • Provide solutions when errors occur such as missing part/material and miss cut piece.
  • Communicate to leader when extra material is needed by specific job.
  • Operate automated saws and CNC equipment to cut wood pieces for panel components.
  • Calibrate automated equipment automated or manually depending on equipment.
  • Stock all materials and inform forklift operator/leader of needed materials for production.
  • Track materials per job and complete daily production schedule.
  • Inspect equipment daily and notify leader/maintenance personnel with equipment issues.
  • Receive daily instruction from leader.
  • Have a thorough understanding of shop drawings and/or computerized production software.
  • Retain an awareness of the work environment critical to the task at hand to produce error-free and damage-free results.
  • Comply with Company's attendance policy by maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience required.
  • 1-3 years of prior shop experience in component assembly required.
  • 1-3 years of industry experience/truss sawyer required.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as automated saws/CNC, staplers, nail guns, routers, various saws, and a crane.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure and use a hammer.
  • Should have the desire to produce a quality product with a team effort in the assembly process.
  • Understand material standards for crown, twist, bow, knots, wane, & splitting.
  • Understand material substitution rules and make substitutions under the direction of supervisor.
  • Excellent teamwork & customer relationships.
