About the position

The Trust Accounting Manager at the Department of Retirement Services is responsible for leading and directing the Trust Accounting Team in managing cash receipting and accounting for retirement funds. This role involves overseeing the collection and transfer of significant retirement contributions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. The position emphasizes leadership, strategic guidance, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for all agency cash reporting operations.
  • Serve as the key advisor on cash handling and financial resource safeguarding.
  • Plan, lead, organize, control, and direct the work of the Trust Accounting team.
  • Enhance team effectiveness through performance appraisals and professional development opportunities.
  • Manage the collection of approximately $6 billion annually in retirement contributions.
  • Direct cash flow communications and quarterly projections for the agency's trust funds.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the State Investment Board and other key partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of full-time experience overseeing a professional accounting program.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely allied field (may substitute for up to two years of experience).
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing supportive leadership for a high performing team.
  • Demonstrated experience with the state's Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Strong customer focus and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to analyze documents and information effectively.
  • Experience in leading and developing others in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong fiscal accountability and ethical conduct.
