About the position

Our client is a full-service law firm dedicated to assisting individuals, businesses, and institutions with legal needs. This legal firm offers business restructuring & insolvency, construction, corporate matters, intellectual property, labor & employment, litigation & alternative dispute resolution, real estate, and trusts & estates. In addition, the firm provides a wide range of legal services to clients in various industries, including aviation & aerospace, cannabis, emerging cyber technologies, energy & natural resources, entertainment, healthcare, hospitality, and life sciences. The firm has offices in major cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Sarasota, Washington, D.C., and Wilmington, DE. Currently, they are looking to add a Trusts & Estates Paralegal to their team in the Los Angeles (Westwood) office. This position is ideal for a seasoned professional with 5 - 8 years of experience in estate planning and trust administration. The Trusts & Estates Paralegal will be responsible for day-to-day tasks related to estate planning and trust administration, assisting with document preparation and review, conducting legal research, and maintaining communication with clients and partners. The role requires a strong understanding of the legal processes involved in trusts and estates, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while adhering to deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting preparation for trusts and estates.
  • Create estate planning legal instruments, such as asset transfers, living trusts, irrevocable trusts, and wills.
  • Assist with the administration of probate, including drafting probate petitions, assessor forms, statutory notices, family settlement agreements, sub-trust setup, Rule 5.6 notices, and asset allocation.
  • Prepare estate tax returns, gift tax returns, and individual and fiduciary income tax returns for federal and state governments.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the company's clients, advisers, and beneficiaries.
  • Submit paperwork to federal, state, and municipal courts (including electronically).
  • Assist with trial preparation.
  • Examine billing for attorneys.
  • Help with meeting and court date scheduling and modifications.
  • Manage travel plans.

Requirements

  • 5 - 8 years of experience in trusts & estates within a law firm environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with WealthCounsel, Lackner, ProLaw, and NetDocs is a plus.
  • Notary Public certification is a plus.
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Legal research and technical writing skills, including proficiency with legal research tools.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work within deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with WealthCounsel, Lackner, ProLaw, and NetDocs.
  • Notary Public certification.
