About the position

The Power Plant Control Systems/Electrical Specialist plays a crucial role in optimizing the performance of the controls and electrical systems for the TS Power Plant, which includes a 203 MW coal/natural gas boiler and a 200 MW solar plant. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving the Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and electrical systems, ensuring continuous operation and alignment with the plant's business objectives. The specialist will support plant operations, environmental health, and safety programs, making them essential to the plant's operational integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design and operational support and maintenance of power plant Emerson Ovation DCS systems and Toshiba steam turbine generator Digital Electrohydraulic Controls (D-EHC) system.
  • Develop and maintain plant electrical safety programs, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Troubleshoot power plant Emerson Ovation DCS logic, process changes, and electrical equipment/systems.
  • Evaluate plant DCS related trips data to determine causes of problems during misoperations.
  • Provide continuous improvement of the plant electrical, Emerson Ovation DCS, and Toshiba steam turbine D-EHC equipment integrity.
  • Participate in outage planning and support for all plant DCS and electrical systems.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the plant electrical equipment, DCS, protection relays, and PI systems.
  • Test and evaluate process control hardware and software, analyzing and repairing control system problems.
  • Provide oversight for acceptance testing of hardware and software for DCS installations and upgrades.
  • Support future capital projects/expansions impacting the DCS system.
  • Train operators using P&ID's sequence of operations and DCS programs.
  • Document DCS control system history and keep control diagrams up to date.
  • Develop plant best practices on current technological advancements.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC/WECC cyber security regulations and state and federal laws.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience with process control systems such as Emerson Ovation or Delta V, ABB DCS systems, Siemens T3000.
  • Understanding of logic and logic diagrams, DCS function network topology, and communication protocols.
  • Ability to understand process control concepts, PID loops, protective relays, and power plant instrumentation.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, organization skills, and deductive reasoning skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows-based programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • A.S. or B.S. in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field.
