About the position

The Post Doctoral Research Associate in Plant Genetic Engineering at Texas Tech University is responsible for conducting specialized research in plant transformation and regeneration. This role involves planning, executing, and supervising original research projects, particularly in the area of crop improvement through genetic engineering. The associate will work under the guidance of graduate faculty, contribute to research publications, and may supervise research assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform plant transformation and regeneration of transgenic events for various species including cotton, sorghum, maize, soybean, peanut, and rice.
  • Develop and optimize improved transformation methods and validate novel transformation technologies.
  • Generate plant transformation vectors and conduct molecular characterization of transgenic events.
  • Collaborate with PTF staff to execute experiments and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Engage in data analysis, interpretation, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and project reports.
  • Maintain and clean greenhouses, laboratory equipment, and growth chambers.
  • Assist in teaching and training students, with responsibilities under 2%.

Requirements

  • PhD in area of project specialization.
  • Knowledge of modern research practices and standards.
  • Ability to organize work effectively and prioritize objectives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Ability to plan and allocate workload, providing training and supervision as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. in plant biotechnology, genetics, molecular biology, or plant biology with strong experience in plant tissue culture and genetic engineering.
  • Experience in generating transgenic plants and developing peer-reviewed publications.
