About the position

The position of Turbomachinery Structural Analyst at Blue Origin is integral to the Lunar Transportation business unit, focusing on the development of the Blue Moon lander for NASA's Artemis mission. This role involves the complete life cycle of turbomachinery components, including analysis, design, and verification, with a strong emphasis on safety and collaboration. The analyst will contribute to the mission of enabling sustainable human presence on the Moon and beyond, working closely with NASA and other partners.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis using FEA and classical methods on turbomachinery components such as impellers, housings, bearings, and shafts.
  • Conduct fatigue and fracture calculations and write detailed structural analysis reports.
  • Collaborate with NASA and National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program.
  • Engage in the complete life cycle of turbomachinery from requirements definition to operation on the moon.
  • Design and build advanced liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen pumps.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related technical subject area.
  • 5+ years of experience in turbomachinery structural analysis.
  • Experience performing FEA utilizing non-linear modeling techniques in ANSYS.
  • Experience performing modal analysis and frequency prediction.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.

  • Experience collaborating with external parties including government and commercial entities.
