About the position

The Mechanical Engineer II at Turquoise Ridge Process operations is responsible for developing and executing projects aimed at enhancing equipment reliability, asset integrity, compliance, process safety, and overall plant performance. This role involves owning technical specifications for equipment and infrastructure, providing technical expertise to Maintenance and Operations, and coordinating the Management of Change process to effectively manage risks and engage stakeholders. The engineer will also interface with the Capital Projects team on larger investment projects, contributing significantly to design and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Drive safety mindset through participation in site programs including field level risk assessments (FLRA), Team Risk Assessments, Field Interactions and Fatal Risk Audits.
  • Oversee the identification, specification, monitoring and verification of Critical Controls pertaining to Process Safety (Process Safety Management).
  • Investigate equipment failures and develop solutions in the context of improved operations and maintenance practices or equipment upgrades.
  • Administer and oversee the plant MOC process, ensuring that contemplated changes are effectively managed and implemented.
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary cross-functional team to support mechanical, instrumentation, automation, and electrical replacements and upgrades.
  • Execute all aspects of small and medium sized projects, including planning, justification, design, approval, construction, commissioning and turnover, applying both company practices and industry codes and standards, with emphasis on solutions to improve safety, compliance and reliability.
  • Manage project schedule, cost, quality control and document control, and develop appropriate reporting of progress to plant leadership.
  • Perform the function of Owners Representative on larger projects managed by the Capital Projects team.
  • Oversee document management and ensure that document control is maintained for all engineering documents.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and applications; recommend improvement opportunities based on the evaluation and gain buy-in or consensus from stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or similar equivalent, is required.
  • Professional Engineering licensure, or ability to successfully obtain an engineering license with the Nevada Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (NVBPELS), is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Project Management knowledge and experience is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of mineral processing operations and construction is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pressure systems and steam systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management programs and practices preferred.
  • Experience with managing contractors and contract management is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred.
