About the position
The Tutor - Mathematics position at Chattanooga State is a temporary contract role focused on providing academic support to students enrolled in mathematics courses. Tutors will facilitate both in-person and online tutoring sessions, fostering a positive learning environment and promoting independent learning among students. The role emphasizes collaboration with instructors and holistic support services to ensure student success in mathematics.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate in-person or online tutoring sessions for students enrolled in Mathematics courses.
- Develop a positive and supportive relationship with students needing additional academic assistance in mathematics courses.
- Promote independent learning of each student participating in tutoring.
- Provide one-on-one math assistance to students referred or seeking assistance with course content or course completion expectations.
- Monitor student's learning strategies and provide assistance in developing more effective methods of skills-building.
- Communicate with instructors as needed regarding student progress and areas of concern.
- Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity-minded practices.
Requirements
- Achieved A's in college level math courses up through Calculus 1 or possess advanced knowledge of Statistics.
- Experience working with students in an academic setting.
- Ability to work on campus with college students of diverse ethnic backgrounds.
Nice-to-haves
- Associates in Mathematics or related fields (i.e. STEM, Computer Science, Engineering).
- Experience working with adult learners.
