About the position

The Nursing Tutor at Lake Michigan College is responsible for providing comprehensive tutoring services to enrolled students in nursing and pre-nursing programs. This role is essential in helping students enhance their academic performance through one-on-one, small group, and classroom instructional assistance. The tutor will assist students in utilizing various media to supplement their learning and will maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance. Additionally, the tutor will engage with faculty and staff to promote tutoring services and consult on student success strategies. Attendance at training sessions requested by the Manager of Testing and Tutoring Services is mandatory, and the tutor may be assigned other duties as needed to support the department's goals. The position requires a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree or higher, along with successful completion of the relevant courses with a grade of B or higher. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality are crucial for this role. The tutor must be comfortable using video conferencing and record-keeping technologies, with training provided as necessary. Commitment to the full academic term is expected, ensuring continuity and support for the students throughout their studies.

Responsibilities

• Provides disciplinary and general tutoring for nursing and pre-nursing students.
• Provides one-to-one, small group, and/or classroom instructional assistance for LMC students.
• Assists students with the use of media to supplement instruction.
• Maintains appropriate and accurate records.
• Visits classrooms to increase recognition of services and consults with faculty and staff concerning students and student success.
• Attends all training requested by the Manager, Testing and Tutoring Services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree or higher required.
• Successful completion of the course they wish to tutor (or higher-level course) with a grade B or higher, or equivalent, is also required.
• Instructor recommendation preferred.
• Good interpersonal skills required.
• Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• Must be able to commit for the full academic term.
• Comfortable using video conferencing and record-keeping technologies; training is provided.
