About the position

The Tutoring Specialist at Brilliant Detroit plays a crucial role in advancing the organization's educational mission by leading and managing key tutoring programs. This position involves maintaining existing tutor partnerships, building new relationships, and conducting program assessments to ensure effectiveness and community alignment. The Specialist will work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure seamless program delivery, helping students achieve academic success while fostering meaningful partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the coordination and operations of the Reading Partners and Experience Corp tutoring programs.
  • Serve as the primary representative to school/partner site staff and administration.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations and schedule of tutoring programs to meet students' learning needs.
  • Facilitate and provide ongoing tutoring to students at one or multiple sites.
  • Manage student and tutor data records through regular assessment and progress monitoring.
  • Provide direct technical support to students and volunteers utilizing partner platforms.
  • Forge and maintain positive relationships with students, families, tutors, and site staff.
  • Lead family, student, and volunteer engagement support within hubs.
  • Motivate students in their learning journeys and manage student behavior.
  • Support volunteer tutor recruitment and onboarding.
  • Guide, coach, and provide feedback and ongoing support to volunteer tutors.
  • Manage a set of volunteer tutors and education support staff.
  • Support the coordination and implementation of additional literacy programs across Brilliant Detroit hubs as needed.
  • Support the coordination of key programming resources to ensure literacy programs are executed smoothly.
  • Provide related reports, conduct presentations, and research as requested.
  • Oversee the tutors data entry into the system.
  • Plan and support departmental meetings.
  • Provide regular update emails to stakeholders including community engagement, volunteer engagement, and communications.
  • Oversee quarterly reporting and reporting updates.
  • Support quarterly program calendar and quality assurance needs.
  • Assist Program Director on budget tracking, proposals, and execution.
  • Assist with special projects and events as needed or assigned.
  • Participate in training and staff development as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for literacy assessments including Dibels or Star Renaissance assessment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2+ years of experience with community-based programming and implementation
  • Experience working in youth literacy programming preferred
  • Technical proficiency in Google Suite and virtual meeting platforms
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals of diverse racial/economic/cultural backgrounds

Nice-to-haves

  • Assessment training; Dibels training preferred (if not, training will be provided)
  • Background in office administration, human/social services preferred
