About the position

The Chief of Staff to the Board Member at the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is a senior-level managerial role responsible for providing strategic and operational support to an appointed Board Member. This position involves maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, advising on policies, and coordinating program activities. The Chief of Staff will work under minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment to support the Board Member's initiatives and outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational support to the Board Member.
  • Coordinate Board Member programs, activities, and outreach efforts.
  • Prioritize tasks, conduct daily briefings, and set schedules for the Board Member.
  • Arrange and participate in meetings and conferences for the Board Member.
  • Conduct research, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the Board Member's duties.
  • Oversee the flow and content of information provided to the Board Member.
  • Monitor relevant legislation affecting the Board's work.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with TWDB staff and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ensure compliance with records retention procedures and schedules.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business, natural sciences, public or policy administration, or a related field.
  • Substantial experience in the development of public policy.
  • Knowledge of Texas Water Code and relevant local, state, and federal laws.
  • Skills in using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to direct and organize activities and establish program goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience with the Texas Legislature or Texas state agencies.
  • Experience with water infrastructure planning, conservation, and financing.
  • Juris Doctorate degree.
