About the position

The Junior Data Analyst/Power BI Specialist position at the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) involves performing entry-level to routine data analysis and research work. The role focuses on analyzing and visualizing data, ensuring data quality, and supporting the agency's mission to secure a water future for Texas. The position requires collaboration with cross-divisional teams and involves the use of SQL and data visualization tools to assist in various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analysis and research within the Technical Systems Oversight (TSO) Department.
  • Write and run queries for data collection, extraction, and analysis using SQL-based programs.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for information from internal and external customers.
  • Maintain a library of data analysis tools, queries, databases, and reports for the TSO team.
  • Assist in developing software applications to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Document desktop procedures related to routine tasks and standard procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-divisional teams on long-term projects.
  • Collect and maintain supporting documentation for data analysis and projects.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper maintenance of individual and team files.
  • Maintain required certifications and licenses and attend mandatory training courses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer or Information Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Relevant work experience in data analysis, business analysis, or a related field for Data Analyst I.
  • One year of relevant work experience for Data Analyst II.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI or similar software for data visualization.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio or similar software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two or more years of progressive work experience in data analysis or business analysis.
  • Experience with financial assistance programs, procurements, or grants in related industries.
  • Experience building tables and manipulating data with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with GIS systems for analyzing geographic data.
