About the position

The SHaW Clinical Pharmacist at the University of Connecticut is responsible for dispensing medications and providing comprehensive medication counseling to students. This role emphasizes health equity and cultural competence, ensuring that diverse student populations receive appropriate pharmaceutical care and support.

Responsibilities

  • Fills prescriptions for students and provides comprehensive medication counseling.
  • Monitors for allergies, contraindications, and drug interactions.
  • Counsels patients to ensure understanding of therapeutic plans and appropriate medication use.
  • Ensures medications are labeled appropriately and delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers to establish therapeutic objectives and recommends appropriate drug entities.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for pharmaceutical questions from providers, nurses, trainers, and students.
  • Prepares medication for patient use according to current pharmacy standards.
  • Maintains control records on drugs received and dispensed, utilizing perpetual inventory for class II medications.
  • Performs semi-annual physical inventory of pharmacy stock and prepares associated reports.
  • Obtains student insurance information and resolves prescription insurance rejections.
  • Makes recommendations regarding pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Counsels patients on health and wellness issues and serves as a resource to clinicians.
  • Assists in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating pharmacy interns and experiential learners.
  • Collaborates with the Department of Public Health and maintains records per federal and state mandates.
  • Participates in various Student Health and Wellness in-service continuing education programs, committees, and advisory groups.

Requirements

  • PharmD or equivalent qualification.
  • Connecticut Pharmacist License.
  • Immunization Certification.
  • CPR Certification.
  • One to two years of experience as a practicing pharmacist.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a college health environment.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy insurance.
  • Naloxone training.
