About the position

The Siemens Energy (SE) Customs team plays a crucial role in supporting SE businesses by ensuring compliance with customs regulations and internal requirements in an efficient manner. The SE U.S. Customs Operations Specialist is responsible for facilitating transactional support for U.S. imports and exports, managing day-to-day activities related to customs operations. This includes reviewing customs documents and broker instructions, analyzing customs clearance issues, and collaborating with U.S. customs brokers and internal customers to resolve any matters related to import and export activities. In this role, the specialist will support cross-functional projects that pertain to trade transactions and assist in implementing regulatory customs requirements for all SE U.S. businesses and affiliates. Building strong partnerships with various business areas is essential, as the specialist will communicate across the organization regarding all operational import and export activities. The position also involves driving financial optimization through compliant use of special U.S. customs programs, preparing and submitting clearance instructions to customs brokers, and ensuring compliance with U.S. import and internal requirements. The specialist will monitor U.S. imports to ensure timely clearance, resolve problems as necessary, and ensure full compliance for export transactions, including reviewing export documentation and filing Electronic Export Information. The role requires interfacing with customs brokers, internal departments, and suppliers to obtain necessary information and maintain consistency with defined import and export processes. Due to export control laws, candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or lawfully admitted refugees or asylees.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day import and export activity, including review of customs documents and broker instructions.
  • Analyze and aggregate causes of customs clearance issues and delays to drive improvement actions.
  • Work with U.S. customs brokers and internal/external customers on customs-related matters.
  • Support cross-functional projects related to trade transactions.
  • Implement regulatory customs requirements for all SE U.S. businesses and affiliates.
  • Develop strong partnerships with SE U.S. business areas and communicate regarding transactional operational activities.
  • Drive financial optimization through compliant use of special U.S. customs programs.
  • Prepare and submit clearance instructions to customs brokers, ensuring compliance with U.S. import requirements.
  • Work with various importing requirements such as FDA, EPA, AD/CVD, quotas, and Free Trade Agreements.
  • Monitor U.S. imports to ensure timely clearance and resolve problems as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance for export transactions, including review of export documentation and filing of Electronic Export Information.
  • Interface with customs brokers, internal departments, and suppliers to obtain needed information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate Degree or High School Diploma with relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of extensive experience in customs/international trade compliance.
  • U.S. Customs Broker License is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Global Trade Management technology/ERP such as SAP (GTS or GTM).
  • Excellent knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and customs brokerage activities.
  • Project skills including analytics, implementation strategies, and metric measurement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for employer-sponsored work authorization.
