About the position

Lennox International is seeking an experienced Head of Product Design to build and lead in-house product design capabilities. This role presents a unique opportunity to establish a strategic, user-centric design practice that will drive customer satisfaction and shape the future of our consumer and commercial HVAC controllers and connected software solutions. The Head of Product Design will be responsible for overseeing the design of Lennox's consumer-facing HVAC controllers and mobile applications, collaborating closely with engineering and product management teams. This position requires a strong focus on defining the overall user experience vision, design roadmap, and quality standards for Lennox's connected home products. In this role, you will establish an in-house product design and user research practice, which includes hiring, managing, and mentoring a new in-house team. You will manage and evaluate the design work currently handled by external vendors, transitioning these duties to an internal design and research practice to ensure tighter control over quality, reduced costs, and increased internal design ownership. The position also involves driving an evidence-driven, iterative design process to deliver innovative, best-in-class experiences for homeowners, installers, and channel partners. Additionally, you will own the creation of research-based user personas to inform product decisions, ensuring that we are building the right products and building them correctly. You will be responsible for building and maintaining a robust design system to ensure consistency, efficiency, and scalability across Lennox's product portfolio. Fostering strong cross-functional partnerships with marketing, engineering, product, and other key stakeholders will be essential to your success in this role. You will also work with other Lennox design resources focused on marketing and web design, ensuring a cohesive approach to product and brand design.

Responsibilities

  • Drive an evidence-driven, iterative design process to deliver innovative, best-in-class experiences for homeowners, installers, and channel partners.

  • Foster strong cross-functional partnerships with marketing, engineering, product, and other key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in product design, with a track record of building and managing design teams and driving strategic business initiatives.
  • Deep expertise in design thinking, user research, interaction design, and visual design.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners, including marketing, engineering, and product management.
  • Experience recruiting and managing high-performing, distributed design teams including in-house and contract resources.
  • Familiarity with agile software development processes and the ability to integrate design into an iterative delivery model.
  • Experience working with waterfall hardware and mechanical design and development practices and have experience meshing agile design practices with waterfall practices.
  • Strong understanding of the interplay between hardware and software design, particularly in the connected home/IoT space.
  • Exceptional facilitation skills to help product teams align on the target audience, customer journey, success metrics, constraints, and scope of work.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to evangelize an experience vision and the purpose & value of the design function to technical and business stakeholders.
