About the position

The UI/UX Designer at the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES) is responsible for enhancing user experiences through web modernization projects. This role involves graphic design, interface design, user research, and the creation of design systems to support the Web Modernization Team. The designer will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that digital products are user-centered and meet accessibility standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze the organization's business needs and confer with users to evaluate requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of program documentation for new or enhanced systems and applications.
  • Conduct or coordinate user acceptance, regression, and integration testing; make changes and corrections as needed.
  • Develop process design alternatives for major portions of applications being analyzed.
  • Design output formats and user formats as dictated by user specifications to ensure ease of use and functionality.
  • Identify user interface problems and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Produce UX deliverables related to assigned projects, including analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Define navigation, interfaces, and layouts focused on user needs.
  • Produce original wireframes, user flows, and prototypes consistent with the state of Oklahoma's vision.
  • Capture target audience feedback and incorporate it into new designs and future iterations.
  • Design page layouts, visual elements, and patterns, and select appropriate typography for web interfaces.
  • Collaborate with developers to solve complex user interaction issues.
  • Work with web developers and accessibility specialists to ensure compliance with Section 508 and basic accessibility requirements.
  • Use expert knowledge of competitive marketplace and industry trends to create user-centered project proposals.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to discuss ideas for layout, organization, and functionality of digital products.
  • Help lead the development of the state's UI/UX practice.
  • Translate client and user needs into relevant, simple, and intuitive UI experiences.
  • Conduct usability testing of websites, tools, and applications.
  • Create sitemaps, user flows, wireframes, and other tools to communicate information architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction (HCI), web design, or graphic design.
  • At least five years of experience in web design/development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with web content management systems, particularly AEM.
  • Strong verbal and customer support skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in user research methodologies.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Knowledge of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Sketch.
