About the position

The UI/UX Developer role involves researching, designing, developing, and testing user interfaces and experiences for web applications. The position requires a blend of design and development skills, acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to assist in high-visibility projects while ensuring compliance with accessibility standards. The developer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement design systems and maintain code quality, focusing on creating responsive and user-friendly applications.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, test, and build UX designs into the JavaScript/Java codebase.
  • Act as a designer-developer, assisting with decision-making for high-visibility projects.
  • Create clean semantic HTML markup that complies with WCAG & ADA/508 standards.
  • Provide development and support for the customer-facing design system, including new components and templates.
  • Collaborate with analysts, developers, and architects for successful implementation of component requirements.
  • Stay current on UI framework trends and suggest new tools and methods as needed.
  • Design and maintain design files, wireframes, and mock-ups.
  • Develop UI and UX interfaces and assist with user interface testing.
  • Hands-on development using front-end frameworks like Vue.js, AngularJS, ReactJS, and jQuery.
  • Develop reusable and responsive interactive patterns and code libraries that meet W3 standards.
  • Participate in conceptualizing and prioritizing strategies for product UX.
  • Develop well-structured and maintainable code following best practices and industry standards.
  • Work with team members to develop UI prototypes and validate ideas with a data-driven approach.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Deep experience in front-end web application development with strong programming skills in at least one language (Java, JavaScript, React, VUE, Angular) on LAMP/MEAN/MERN stack.
  • Experience creating conceptual and detailed design solutions based on end-user needs.
  • Knowledge of software development with Adobe Experience Manager, SharePoint, and WordPress CMS is a plus.
  • History of working with cross-functional teams using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience communicating and working with business and technology users to create holistic solutions.
  • Skills and experience using end-to-end Human Centered Design (HCD) techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • UI/UX design or web developer certifications & training.
  • Previous experience in the Electric and Gas Utility Industry.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a relevant business degree from an accredited university.
  • Exposure to front-end user frameworks (Vue.js, AngularJS, ReactJS, jQuery).
  • Experience working within Agile ceremonies and methodologies.
